The predecessor of the college is the staff University of Yunnan Bureau of Geology and mineral resources founded in 1978. In April 2001, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People's government's "yzf [2001] No. 83" document, the Ministry of Education officially put it on record. The school was restructured and renamed as "Yunnan land and Resources Vocational College", realizing the leap forward transformation from adult higher education to ordinary higher education, from running school oriented to geological system to running school oriented to land and resources industry and social needs.
