Founded in 1956, Capital University of economics and trade is a key university of Beijing Municipality, which was merged and established by the former Beijing Institute of economics and the former Beijing Institute of Finance and trade in March 1995. The headquarters of the university is located in Fengtai Park, Zhongguancun High-tech Park, Huaxiang Town, Fengtai District, with full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education as the main part. The university has academic exchanges and cooperation with more than 60 universities, research institutions and social organizations in more than 20 countries and regions. The master of accounting (MPA) and certified public accountants (CPA) programs, jointly organized with Deakin University, Australian Society of certified public accountants and Chinese society of certified public accountants, are the first Chinese foreign cooperative education programs that combine degree education and vocational qualification education in China, approved by degree Office of the State Council and Beijing Municipal Education Commission. In 2013, the University sent more than 100 undergraduates and postgraduates to study abroad through friendly institutions.

The University attaches great importance to the teaching of international students. Since 1986, it began to recruit international students. The students are divided into undergraduate students, master's students, doctoral students, advanced students and ordinary students. It has set up a teaching center for Chinese as a foreign language. In 2007, it opened a master's class in English, and in 2011, it opened a doctoral class in English. There are more than 600 international students from more than 70 countries every year country.
