As the only public higher vocational college in Ma'anshan City, the college was formerly known as Ma'anshan United University founded in 1984. It was renamed vocational and Technical College of Anhui University of technology in 2000 and Ma'anshan vocational and technical college with the approval of the Ministry of education and Anhui Provincial People's Government in 2008.

Located 45 kilometers away from Nanjing, the college is located in Maanshan City, Anhui Province, a national civilized city embracing the Yangtze River, alternating mountains and rivers, and ecological and livable. The city has one national economic and Technological Development Zone, one national new material base, one provincial high-tech Industrial Development Zone, six provincial economic development zones, one provincial service outsourcing industry demonstration park, and one provincial Taiwan Industrial Park. The total amount and per capita value of main economic indicators have always been in the forefront of the Province. The college has seven departments: Electronic Information Department, electrical engineering department, mechanical engineering department, economic and trade department, management engineering department, applied foreign language department and basic department. On October 13, 2009, Yin Weimin, Minister of the Ministry of human resources and social security, inspected the college and pointed out that the school running mode and talent training effect of the college are very good, hoping to create more experience by taking this as an example. The college has 432 staff. Among them, there are 282 full-time teachers, 117 full-time teachers with the title of associate professor or above, 163 double qualified teachers and 119 teachers with master's degree. At present, there is a provincial skill master studio, 10 national and provincial trainers, and 7 provincial and municipal professional leaders.
