Shandong Agricultural University is located at the foot of Mount Tai. Its predecessor is Shandong Agricultural College, which was founded in Jinan in 1906. After several changes, Shandong Agricultural University was established in 1952 after the adjustment of national departments. It was moved from Jinan to Tai'an in 1958 and renamed Shandong Agricultural University in 1983. In July 1999, the former Shandong Agricultural University and Shandong Water Conservancy College merged, and the Shandong Forestry School merged to form a new Shandong Agricultural University. At present, the university has developed into a multidisciplinary university integrating agriculture, science, engineering, management, economics, arts, law and art.

The university is a University jointly built by the Ministry of agriculture and the people's Government of Shandong Province, and jointly built by the State Forestry Administration and the people's Government of Shandong Province.
