Yunnan Art College, founded in 1959, is a comprehensive art college with distinctive characteristics and complete art categories in Southwest China.

Since its establishment, Yunnan Academy of art has gathered a large number of famous artists. Professor Liao Xinxue, an oil painter and sculptor returned from France, Professor Li Dan, a violinist, Professor Fang Yu and his wife, a vocalist, and Professor Yuan Xiaocen, a famous Chinese painter and sculptor, have successively taught in the college. The college has 625 faculty members, including 525 in the University headquarters and 100 in affiliated schools. Every year, all kinds of national art professional competitions are won by the college. From 2001 to 2003, the college won 278 national, provincial and ministerial awards for its research, creation and performance achievements, participated in more than 200 international and domestic exhibitions and performances, published 42 academic monographs, and completed 25 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects.

Journal of Yunnan Academy of Arts, sponsored by Yunnan Academy of Arts, is an academic journal published at home and abroad. In recent years, with its strong academic consciousness and open academic mind, the journal has won the attention and praise of the academic circles.

Yunnan Art College covers an area of 184 mu, with a total construction area of 70306 square meters. The college library has 200000 printed books and 120000 electronic books (films). It subscribes to hundreds of various journals every year, and now invests 800000 yuan for book construction every year. On the basis of the studio, drama experimental theater, small concert hall, art gallery and other teaching practice venues, the college has built a new experimental theater with a total area of 12068 square meters, which integrates performance and exhibition.

The international art exchange center of Yunnan Academy of Arts is responsible for foreign exchange and cooperation as well as international student education. More than 400 students from more than 20 countries have studied in our college. Our institute has established inter school relations with more than 20 universities in the United States, Japan, Germany, Italy, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries. We have carried out exchanges and cooperation at all levels, and set up a studio in Paris International Art City, France, to build a platform for artists to go to the world. At present, the college has invested 29.69 million yuan in the construction of an international student building with a construction area of 14620 square meters, which is expected to be put into use in September 2006.
