Hubei University of technology is a multi-disciplinary university with eight disciplines covering engineering, arts, science, arts, economics, management, law and education. The University was founded in 1952. In 1984, the former Hubei Institute of light industry and the former Hubei Agricultural Machinery College merged to form Hubei Institute of technology. In 2004, it was renamed Hubei University of technology.
