Shougang Institute of technology was founded in 1978. Its predecessor is the branch of Beijing Iron and Steel Institute. It is an engineering college approved by the Ministry of education. In 1994, it was renamed Shougang Institute of technology with the approval of the Ministry of education. The college focuses on metallurgy, mechanical and electrical engineering, architecture and other engineering majors, with prominent industry advantages, distinctive school running characteristics, and coordinated development of multi disciplines and multi-level. Before 1999, the college mainly trained undergraduates, mainly for Shougang. Since 1999, with the vigorous development of Higher Vocational Education in China, the college has established the school running policy of training high-quality applied talents with distinctive professional characteristics and adapting to China's industrial development and industrial economic structure adjustment, and started the innovation and practice of higher vocational education.
The college is located in the northwest of Jinyuan bridge on the Fifth Ring Road in the west of Beijing, adjacent to Shougang Basketball Center, with convenient transportation and excellent school running conditions. The college covers an area of 167000 square meters and a building area of 91000 square meters. There are modern teaching facilities such as training center, student computer room, professional classroom, laboratory and network center. The total bandwidth of campus network outlet is 102mbps, the digital resources is 27tb, and the library has 330000 books. The college has Department of mechanical and electrical engineering, Department of information engineering, Department of architecture and environmental protection engineering, Department of economic management, Department of foundation and School of continuing education. There are 30 higher vocational majors such as mechatronics, environmental protection and monitoring, accounting, computer art design, and 10 adult education majors such as mechatronics technology, industrial and commercial enterprise management, and metallurgical technology, among which mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, metallurgical engineering, and industrial and commercial management have the right to grant bachelor's degrees. Every year, we recruit students to the society in the form of unified enrollment, independent enrollment, single entrance examination, and adult examination. At present, there are more than 3190 full-time students in higher vocational colleges, and more than 870 students in adult college education. Every year, more than 12000 people of various types and levels are trained for enterprises.
The college has 199 full-time teachers, including 67 teachers with deputy senior titles and above and 5 doctors, forming a "double qualification" teaching team with high level. There are more than 180 kinds of teaching materials and monographs edited by our teachers. The fully hydraulic opening machine for blast furnace is a pioneering achievement in China's metallurgical industry. In recent years, the college has won a series of education and teaching achievements and honors, such as the second prize of Beijing higher education teaching achievements, municipal excellent teaching team, famous teachers of municipal colleges and universities, municipal excellent courses and municipal excellent teaching materials. It has published more than 800 papers in various national journals, and some papers have won municipal or industry association awards. The "Beijing professional continuing education base project" declared by the college in 2013 has been approved, and the construction period is two years.
The specialty construction of the college is close to the market, dynamic evaluation and accurate positioning. Starting from the requirements of the society for the quality, knowledge and vocational skills of talents, we should update the concept of vocational education, constantly reform and improve the professional talent training program, and build a professional platform to meet the market demand. Among them, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD / CAM) and environmental monitoring and governance technology are the pilot majors of professional teaching reform in Beijing universities. Mechatronics technology, computer-aided design and manufacturing two majors participated in the three-year ihk vocational qualification certificate training project jointly carried out by Beijing Higher Vocational Colleges and Germany. The project has completed two phases of graduate training. The students passed the German examination with excellent results and obtained the corresponding Mechatronics engineer and technical cartographer professional qualification certificates. There are FESTO electromechanical control training room, PLC training room, environmental testing training room, environmental engineering training room and other high-level training conditions in the school; relying on well-known enterprises, there are a number of school enterprise cooperation training bases outside the school, so that students can get professional quality and professional ability training and exercise during the school.
