Zhuhai City Vocational and technical college is a full-time ordinary college sponsored by Zhuhai Municipal People's government. It was established with the approval of Guangdong Provincial People's Government in April 2004 and reported to the Ministry of education for the record. It is a combination of the former Zhuhai Institute of education, Zhuhai Radio and Television University, the former Zhuhai Industrial and technical college, and the former Zhuhai finance and trade school. The predecessor of Zhuhai Institute of education is Zhuhai normal school, which was founded in March 1970 and upgraded to a junior college in July 1983. The university has held higher education for more than 30 years and has accumulated rich experience in running vocational education.

In November 2013, the school was identified as the third batch of Guangdong provincial model higher vocational colleges construction units by Guangdong Provincial Department of education and Guangdong Provincial Department of finance. The current Secretary of the Party committee is Zhong Yijun, and the president is Liu Huaqiang. Professor Liu Renhuai, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and former president of Jinan University, is the honorary president of the University.

The school insists on taking higher vocational education as the main body, continuing education, lifelong education and open education as the supplement, innovating the "double three element" interaction between government, school and enterprise, and the open school running mode of industry university research cooperation, which has become an important support for building a learning city in Zhuhai, and building a famous school with higher vocational characteristics in collaborative innovation.

The school now covers an area of about 361400 square meters with perfect infrastructure. It has all kinds of experimental training rooms and function rooms with good conditions and advanced facilities. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is more than 66.47 million, and there are about 380000 books and materials. There are 11 departments and 31 specialties closely related to Zhuhai's social and economic development. At present, there are more than 14000 students, including 6200 full-time vocational college students and 8000 part-time adult education students.

The school is committed to building a teaching team with "double quality" and "double structure". There are 346 full-time teachers, including more than 120 teachers with senior professional titles and about 80 doctors (including students). The proportion of double quality teachers is nearly 75%, reaching 259. In recent years, the college has introduced one provincial famous teacher and built four provincial teaching teams.
