Jilin police college is a full-time undergraduate college with distinctive characteristics to cultivate applied police talents and economic construction talents with high political quality, solid theoretical foundation, strong innovation ability and practical skills.

Jilin police college has a long history of running a school. Its predecessor is Jilin public security cadre school, which was founded in September 1949. It was rebuilt as Jilin People's police school in 1980, upgraded to Jilin Public Security College in March 1985, renamed as Jilin Public Security College in September 1993, and upgraded to Jilin police college in March 2010.

The college is located in Changchun, the spring city of northern China, beside the Jingyuetan, the largest plantation in Asia. The college covers an area of 630.4 mu, with a building area of 168500 square meters. It is divided into Jingyue campus and south campus. The campus environment is elegant and the architecture is unique. The college has complete infrastructure, advanced teaching means and perfect experimental equipment. The college has 5 basic laboratories, 31 professional laboratories, 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 14 on campus experimental training bases, and 104 practical teaching bases in the country and province.

The college has 13 undergraduate majors and 17 junior college majors, covering five disciplines of law, literature, engineering, management and economics. Four undergraduate majors have been identified as characteristic majors of Jilin Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period. The college has 305 full-time teachers, including 31 professors, 74 associate professors, 158 doctors and masters, 4 provincial famous teachers and 2 provincial excellent teaching teams.

The college has nearly 6000 full-time students. At the same time, the college also undertakes the tasks of police rank promotion training for In-service Police of Jilin public security organs, qualification training for new recruits and military transferred cadres, and professional training for various police services, with an annual training of more than 4000 In-service Police. The Ministry of public security has set up two main business training bases in the college, namely "June 13" business training and "information security training of national anti computer intrusion and anti-virus research center". The Ministry of public security and the Ministry of education have listed the college as a pilot college of recruitment and training system reform in national political and law colleges. The provincial public security department has set up a training school for police station leaders in Jilin Province.

The Institute has established friendly cooperative relations with Russia, the United States, South Korea and other institutions, and has sent overseas students and visiting scholars to South Korea's Suwon University of science.

In the 63 years since its establishment, the college has trained more than 80000 graduates and policemen, which has been widely praised by employers. Most of the graduates have become the business backbone of grass-roots public security organs, and a considerable number of graduates have taken up leadership positions at all levels.
