[plant morphology] cypress, also known as Xiangbai (San Fu Jiu Shi), is composed of Chamaecyparis, cypress pendula, Sabina vulgaris, white wood tree, Pinus densiflora, Chamaecyparis, cypress pendula, cypress Qingshu and cypress Songbai.
Evergreen trees, up to 20 meters high, up to 1 meter in diameter. The bark is smooth and grayish brown with drooping branches. The leaves are scaly, opposite to each other, close to the branches, oval triangle, linear or cone-shaped on the young or old branches, 3 or 4 whorls and widely spread, apex long pointed and slightly developed. Flowers small, unisexual, monoecious, terminal; male inflorescence yellow, pair elliptic, stamens usually 8. Cones woody, globose, with short stalks, 8-12 mm in diameter, brown, scales 8, peltate, tweezers arranged, abaxially with short pointed convex bodies, each scale with 3 seeds. Seeds ovate, slightly winged. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from June to September.
It is often cultivated on hillsides, beside highways, ancient tombs and temples. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

The branches and leaves are dendriform. The leaves are small, scaly, sharp apex, closely attached to the branchlets, but on the larger branches, the leaf tips are not close to each other and protrude like thorns; the leaf surface is yellowish green or grayish green; the branchlets are brown. It is brittle and easy to break. The gas is light and the taste is astringent.
