It is a creeping herb with fishy smell, smooth and hairless. The stem is weak, nodose, columnar, with shallow longitudinal groove on one side. Leaves alternate, papery; broadly ovate, 2.5-6 cm long, 2.5-6.5 cm wide, xianrui short pointed, base auricular heart-shaped, entire, undulate; palmate reticulate veins, 5 main veins; petiole 2.5-4 cm long, oblate, ventral longitudinal groove; stipules morbid, connate with petiole, base half amplexicaul, about half of petiole length. Spike, opposite to leaves, petiole 3-3.5cm long, slightly flat; flower small, white, bisexual; bract 1, obovate, apex 2-3-lobed, lobes short triangular; perianth absent; stamens 6, filaments thick and short, anthers 2-locular, black, longitudinally lobed; carpels 4, connate 1-locular, style 4, filiform, stigma on inner surface, slightly outward. The fruit contains many seeds.
It is distributed in the southwest and south of China.
