[plant morphology] Phoebe Serrulata
Evergreen trees, up to 16 m high. Young branches and leaves densely brown tomentose. Single leaf alternate, leathery, oblanceolate or obovate, 8-24 cm long, 4-9 cm wide, apex short, tail pointed, occasionally acuminate, base cuneate, green above, with fine hairs on veins when young, then gradually falling off, gray green below, veins densely covered with brown fine hairs, reticulate veins raised. Panicle axillary, densely covered with pale brown tomentose; flowers bisexual; perianth 6-lobed, ca. 3 mm long, hairy on both sides; fertile stamens 9, anthers 4-locular, third whorl stamens outward lobed. Drupe ovoid, ca. 8 mm long, base enclosed by persistent cup-shaped perianth tube; peduncle villous. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows in the shade and dampness valley. It is distributed in the South and southwest of the Yangtze River Basin.
