Herbaceous, stout, erect, glabrous, perennial. Culms sparsely tufted, 20-60 cm high, acute triangular, base inflated. Leaves shorter than culm, linear lanceolate, 0.3-0.5cm wide, apex acuminate, lower part often folded, upper green, lower light green, sheath brown or reddish brown. Under the inflorescence, there are 5-8 leaflike bracts, green, slightly spongy, usually longer than the inflorescence; the long lateral branch cyme is simple, with 6-12 or more radial branches, varying in length; the spike is cylindrical or oblong, with many dense spikelets, the spikelets are flat or slightly pendulous, linear lanceolate, most of which gather at the top of the petiole to form a radial round head inflorescence; the scales are membranous, Pale yellow or greenish white. Nuts narrowly oblong or triangular. The heading stage is summer and autumn.
Most of them grow in fields and hillside grass. Distributed in Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Tibet and other places.
