[plant morphology] Rhododendron parviflora
Semi evergreen shrub, up to 2 m high. Branchlets brown with brown scales and pubescence. Leaves alternate, leathery; elliptic lanceolate or narrowly ovate. 2-3 cm long, apex pointed, margin with sparse teeth or inconspicuous, base cuneate, upper green, lower dense brown glandular scales. Flowers densely racemose; calyx 5-lobed, ovate to lanceolate, outside covered with brown scales and pubescence; corolla campanulate white, 5-lobed, lobes ovate; stamen 10; pistil 1. Capsule oblong, mature brown, 5-lobed, with scales outside, flowering from May to July. The fruit period is from July to September.
Wild in hillsides, ravines and crevices. Distributed in Liaoning, Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Shandong and other places.

[chemical composition] it contains saponins, tannins, reducing substances, polysaccharides, flavonoids, Oils and volatile oils. The flavonoids in leaves are quercetin, gossypol and kaempferol. The content of volatile oil was 0.27% (fresh leaves). There are four phenolic acids in the leaves: p-hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid and syringic acid.

[clinical application] ① treatment of postpartum joint pain
108 cases were treated with syrup or tablet made from the leaves of Lespedeza zhaoshanensis. 41 cases were cured (38%), 18 cases were basically cured (17%), and 25 cases were significantly effective (23%). The medication lasted for 17-200 days, most of them for 50-100 days. This medicine has curative effect on new or chronic patients. Usage: syrup contains 1g crude drug per ml, 5ml each time, twice a day; tablet is equivalent to 2.5G crude drug, 2 tablets each time, twice a day. During medication, avoid eating raw and cold food. Pregnant women should not take it. Overdose can cause poisoning.
② Treatment of chronic tracheitis
Two hundred and twenty-five patients were treated with Zhaoshan Baiye syrup (containing 1g crude drug per milliliter) 10 ml twice a day (20 g in total); 79 patients were treated with Zhaoshan Baiye extract tablet (20 g crude drug per day). The course of treatment was 25 days. Among the 304 cases in the two groups, 36 cases of simple type and 10 cases of wheezing type were over 50 years old, 27 cases of simple type and 8 cases of wheezing type were under 50 years old. 35 cases of simple type and 35 cases of wheezing type were over 50 years old; 38 cases of simple type and 25 cases of wheezing type were under 50 years old. Side effects: blood pressure and heart rate decreased, 15% of patients had mild heartburn, dry mouth and other digestive tract reactions, without stopping the drug, 3-5 days can disappear. A few patients may have dizziness, numbness of hands and feet, weakness, sweating and other phenomena, but it does not affect labor. In addition, 3 cases of poisoning were found, 1 case only took the treatment dose once, and 2 cases took overdose (15-20g once) on an empty stomach. The symptoms of poisoning occurred about half an hour after taking the medicine, and reached the peak in one hour. The symptoms include frequent sneezing, neck pain, leg weakness, cold sweat, yellow vision, dizziness, pulse retardation, weakness or arrhythmia, and blood pressure drop. In severe cases, it can drop sharply to shock state. In the rescue process, the application of a variety of pressor drugs can be rescued.
③ Treatment of hypertension
Use 20% zhaoshanbai tincture, 5 ml each time at the beginning, then gradually increase, no more than 15 ml each time at most, 3 times a day after meals. Two weeks is a course of treatment, according to the needs of continuous treatment 1-4 courses. The total effective rate was 74%. The patients with younger age, shorter course of disease and milder condition have better curative effect, and vice versa. In addition to mild nausea and loss of appetite in a few cases, no obvious toxic effects and other side effects on myocardium, liver, kidney and other organs were found within the prescribed treatment dose. If it exceeds the prescribed dose, it can cause a sudden drop of blood pressure and hypotension shock.
