Annual herb, 50-100 cm high. Stems clustered, often unbranched or 2-3-branched, erect, stout, purplish at nodes and lower parts. Leaves opposite, lanceolate to oblong, sometimes ovate lanceolate, 3-10 cm long or longer, 8-25 mm wide or wider. Inflorescence racemose in the upper part of the branch, forming clusters in the leaf limb pairs; pedicels of different lengths, pubescent; calyx tubular, with 10 veins outside, glabrous; petals 5, white, slightly longer than calyx, apex 2-lobed, base gradually narrowed into claws, throat with 2 scales; stamens 10; ovary oblong, style 3. Capsule long ovate, slightly longer than calyx. Seeds reniform, brown.
It grows in hillside, valley, shrub or grass on plateau hillside. It is distributed in North China, Northeast China, Zhejiang and Sichuan.
