The male is about 70 cm long and the female is smaller. Mouth flat, covered with soft skin, fleshy or rose, pointed with horny beak, gray or white. Chest and abdomen are brown gray with irregular black spots. There are no such black spots and white lines on the base of the beak. It lives in swamp area. When they migrate, they often gather in large groups and fly orderly. They breed in northern Siberia and migrate to the lower reaches of the Yangtze River to overwinter.
