Liana woody, 2-3 m high. The root is stout, and the skin is dark purple red. The stem is much branched, with fine longitudinal lines, and the young branches are green. Simple leaves alternate; leathery; stipitate; ovate or oblong, 4-8 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, entire or slightly wavy, both surfaces green, glabrous, lower lateral veins very obvious. Axillary cymes or sometimes terminal panicles; flowers small, greenish white; calyx 5-lobed, lobes triangular; petals 5-spatulate; stamens 5; ovary 2-locular, enclosed in a 5-angled disk. The nut is spherical, reddish brown when ripe, with a duck tongue shaped membranous thin wing on the top, 3-5 cm long. The flowering period is summer and moon.
It grows under the sparse forest or in the shrubbery on the side of the mountain or ditch. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.
