Evergreen trees, up to 8 m high. Bark grayish brown; branchlets densely brown sericeous. Leaves alternate, oblong or obovate oblong, 9-15 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, apex caudal, base cuneate, entire, leathery, densely covered with golden yellow silky hairs, exfoliated when old; petiole 7-15 mm long, short hairy. The flowers are unisexual, dioecious, with 3-5 umbels and involucres. The perianth is 4-lobed. The male flower has 6 stamens and 4-locular anthers. The third round stamens have 2 glands at the base. The female flower has 1 pistil. Drupe subglobose, ca. 8 mm in diam., perianth persistent; carpel ca. 1.5 cm long, short hairy. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from September to November.
It grows in the mixed forest or forest edge on the sunny slope. It is distributed in East and South China.
