[plant morphology] fresh Coptis chinensis
Herbs perennial, ca. 25 cm tall. Rhizome short, skin dark brown, inside bright yellow, dense fine and branched fibrous roots. The leaf blade is nearly round, about 5-8 cm in diameter, the base is deep heart-shaped, the top is slightly concave, the edge is wavy, 7-9 palmate veins, the leaf quality is thin, both sides are smooth and glabrous; the petiole is 13-25 cm long, glabrous, with purple brown scales at the base. Flowers solitary at the top of stem, about 2 cm in diameter; sepals 4, purplish red, caducous; petals 6-8, obovate, purplish red or purplish red; stamens 8; pistils 1, fusiform. Capsule. Seeds black, glossy. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from May to June.
It grows under forest, hillside, shrub or wet ground at the foot of mountain. It is distributed in Northeast China.
