Perennial herbs, 10-20 cm high. There are thick fleshy rhizomes, 5-6 clusters, spindle shaped, yellow white. Leaf blade lanceolate, 6-9 cm long, 0.9-1.4 cm wide, apex tapering, apex pointed or slightly obtuse, entire, parallel to veinlets. 1-2 flowers terminal, deep purple red; corolla tube long and thin, lobes 3, upper lobes wide, erect, hood shaped, lateral 2 lobes short; labellum large, cuneate, bent down; lateral pseudostamens 2, oblanceolate, petal shaped; stamens 1, anther curved, anther base spaced. Capsule terete. It blooms in spring and summer.
It is found in the humid part of the hillside. It is distributed in Southwest China.
