Perennial herbs, 1-2 m high. Stoloniferous rhizome can be extended to 10 meters, 5-10 mm in diameter, light and soft. Leaves arranged in 2 rows; linear, 18-35 cm long, 7-12 mm wide; auricles covered with white filamentous hairs, short hairs scattered on the spine of sheath apex when tender. Panicle, large and spreading, 10-40 cm long, slender branches, sometimes with filiform hairs at the base; both sides of spikelet compressed, with 3-5 florets, linear lanceolate, 8-12 mm long; glume without obvious longitudinal lines, glumes unequal; basal disc extended, with filiform soft hairs; lemma developed, gradually shrinking upward; palea very short; scales 2; seeds black, panicle, style persistent. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruit period is from November to December.
Born in the stream, valley, near the water. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi and Taiwan.
