[plant morphology] Perilla frutescens
Perennial, erect or oblique herbs, base prostrate, height 15-30 cm. The stem is hollow, cylindrical, light green, nodal, fleshy and fragrant. Leaves opposite or 3-impeller-shaped; lanceolate, 1.5-4 cm long, apex short pointed, base half embracing stem, margin serrate, glandular dots on leaves; sessile. Flowers usually solitary in leaf axils and several in racemes; sepals lanceolate, usually shorter than petiole, ca. 5 mm long; corolla reddish white, ca. 1 cm long. Capsule oblong. The flowering period is October.
Born in the ditch, field, swamp and other wetlands. It is distributed all over South China.
