Evergreen trees, 10-20m high. Young branches rusty pilose, later smooth. The leaflets are oblong to oblong, 6-18 cm long, 2.5-7.5 cm wide, apex short pointed or obtuse, base broadly cuneate, entire, below thinly covered with sparse pubescence, sometimes convoluted pubescence, petioles short. Panicle axillary or terminal, 10-30 cm long, rust colored pilose; flowers small, unisexual, with short stalks; calyx 4-6-lobed, about 2 mm long, rust colored pilose; without petals; stamens 6-8, filaments hairy; ovary 2-3-lobed, verrucose, sparsely pilose; style deeply lobed, lobes curved. Drupe ellipsoid to ellipsoid, densely covered with soft spines, 3-4 cm long (without spines), about 2.5 cm in diameter, yellow or red when ripe, dark brown after drying, Fruit Spines short and curved, 3.5-5 mm long, apex obtuse. The aril is translucent, juicy and sweet and sour. It blooms in spring. The fruit ripens in summer.

Born in tropical forests. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
