Small shrubs, 1-2m high. Young branches densely pubescent, leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, sub leathery, elliptic or obovate, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-3.6 cm wide, apex obtuse, base rounded, entire, below densely pubescent, base with 3 main veins, rarely 5. Cyme, 1-flowered, peduncle longer than petiole; bracts leaflike, but smaller; flower diameter about 2 cm; calyx tube about 6 mm long, lobes 5, round, unequal; petals 5, rose red, outside pubescent; stamens many, separated, arranged in series; ovary inferior, 2-6-locular. Berries globose, up to 1.4 cm in diameter, dark purple when ripe. The flowering period is from May to July. The fruit period is from July to September.

Born in hills and wilderness. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan, Fujian, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and other places.
