Herbs perennial, less than 1 m high. Branches with appressed long stellate hairs. Leaves narrowly ovate, ovate or strip narrowly ovate, 2-6 cm long, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate or rounded, margin serrate, both surfaces sparsely appressed with simple hairs; stipules subulate, ca. 5 mm long. Flowers 1-2, axillary, petiolate; bracteoles 3, narrow strip; calyx campanulate, 5-lobed, with rough hairs outside; petals 5, yellow, obovate; most anthers at the top of stamen tube; carpels about 10, each carpel with 1 erect ovule, stigma capitate. Mericarps reniform, ca. 2 mm high, flat, upper part hirsute, 1 spine near the top, 2 short spines in the middle of back.
