[plant morphology] banyan tree (Southern vegetative), also known as inverted tree (Yuezhi), inverted tree, undead tree (compendium Collection), fine leaf banyan (Lingnan medicine Collection), Zhengrong, Guanrong and Xiaoye banyan.

It is a large evergreen tree with a height of 20-25m and a diameter at breast height of more than 2m. It has many branches and diffuses. Its crown expands into an umbrella shape. Its bark does not peel off and has white milk. Its air roots can be drawn from its trunk and it can reach the ground and is as straight as a column. Leaves alternate, leathery, broadly obovate or obovate oblong, 4-10 cm long, 2-5.5 cm wide, base cuneate or rounded, apex obtuse, shortly acuminate, entire, glabrous on both sides, lateral veins 5-6 pairs, surface inconspicuous; petiole 7-15 mm long. Cryptocephalus solitary or bisexual in axils, obovoid, 5-10 mm in diameter, milky white at first, yellow or reddish at maturity, Base bracts 3, broad ovate, obtuse; male perianth 3-4, stamen 1; female perianth 3, stigma long; gall flower like female flower. It grows on the hillside and riverside of the village, sometimes on the top of the tower and on the cliff. Distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Taiwan, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Guizhou and other places.

The bark (banyan bark), leaf (banyan leaf) and resin (banyan gum juice) of this plant are also used for medicine. See special regulations for details.

[medicinal materials] the dry air roots are thin strips of wood, about 1 meter long, thick at the base, 4-8 mm in diameter, tapering at the end, often branched, sometimes clustered with 6-7 branches. The surface is reddish brown, the outer skin is longitudinal split, sometimes peeled off, and the pores are gray white, round or oval. It is brittle, the skin is not easy to break, and the wood is brown. It is better to be thin and reddish brown.
