[plant morphology] macrophylla
Perennial submerged herbs. Rhizome recumbent, white and thick; stem branched at base, flat, light chestnut. Leaves green, linear, more than 50 cm long, 5 mm wide, soft; stipules membranous, long and narrow. Inflorescence spicate, born in the comb bract; flowers small, male and female flowers arranged in two rows, no perianth, naked; ovary oval oblong, apex chisel shaped style, stigma bifid, bristly. The flowering period is from April to May and the fruiting period is from May to June.
Born in the sea. It is distributed in Liaoning and Shandong coastal areas.
In modern times, kelp is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. The kelp described in Jiayou materia medica is kelp and leek. There are two kinds of plants in Dengzhou area, which are called "kelp grass" in Shandong Province. Their characters are also consistent with "pliable and long" in Jiayou materia medica. Nowadays, kelp is also used as medicine in Liaoning Province.
[collection] it can be harvested in spring, summer and autumn to remove impurities, washed with fresh water and dried in the shade.
[medicinal materials] the dried whole grass is slender, banded, full margin, often shrunk or curled, mostly broken, about 2-8 mm in diameter, as thin as paper, with brownish green to brown surface and white like salt frost. It is as crisp as paper and has fine wool like fibers on the folding surface. Weak in smell; salty in taste.
Produced in Liaoning, Shandong and other places.
[chemical composition] the content of water, ash, crude fiber, nitrogen, protein, fat and pentosan was 28.5%, 17%, 21.2%, 0.71%, 4.81%, 1.2% and 8.82%, respectively. It contains galacturonic acid, galactose, arabinose, xylose, o-methyl xylose and coriander. It also contains tannin and vitamin B2. The iodine content is not enough.
