[plant morphology] Rhododendron microphylla
Erect, branched, subshrub, usually less than 0.5 m tall. Leaves very small, oblong, obovate to obovate, 1-2 cm long, apex concave, truncate or rounded, usually broad, base cuneate, margin dentate, back gray white, densely stellate pilose. Flowers solitary in leaf axils, usually shortly petiolate, ca. 8 mm in diam. Calyx 5-lobed, lobes valvate; petals 5, yellow; stamens numerous; mature carpels smooth or rugose, with short awns. It blooms in winter.
Born on the roadside of wasteland. It is distributed in South China and southwest China.
