Deciduous subshrub, up to about 1 meter high. The root is thick and long, light yellow brown. Stem erect or recumbent, longitudinally ribbed, covered with white short hairs, old stem glabrous. The terminal leaflets are broadly ovate, the lateral leaflets are obliquely ovate and smaller, 6-15 cm in length and 3.5-8.5 cm in width, 2-3-lobed, apex acute, base broadly cuneate, margin with irregular coarse teeth, teeth pointed, both sides covered with white pubescence, especially dense below. Panicles terminal and axillary, flowers heteroecious or dioecious; calyx tubular, ca. 1.5 cm long, sepals 4, apex reflexed outward, ca. 2 cm long, blue, covered with white silky hairs, apetalous; stamens numerous, filaments pubescent; carpels numerous, separated. Achene ovate with persistent short pinnate style. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows in the mixed forest on the high hillside. It is distributed in East China, North China and Northeast China.
