[plant morphology] Calendula officinalis
Perennial herbs. Rhizome thick short, dark brown, with many fine roots. Stem erect, 25-40 cm high, simple, sparsely branched, ten alternate, often above the middle of stem, stipitate, leaf triangular ovate, 3-cleft; lobes ovate lanceolate, pinnately lobed or notched. The flowers are single, bisexual, yellow, 3.5-4 cm in diameter, sepals 5-8, petaloid, shorter than petals, petals 5-16, stamens numerous, carpels numerous, separated, with one ovule. Aggregate achenes subglobose.
It grows on hillside forest or ridge rock. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places.
[collection] harvest in summer, wash and dry in the shade.
[taste] bitter, cool and poisonous.
Functions and indications: clearing heat and drying dampness, strengthening stomach, calming and strengthening heart. It has the same function as Coptis chinensis. It is used to treat carbuncle, sore, swelling and pain, vomiting, diarrhea, palpitation, insomnia and epilepsy.
[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 2-3 yuan. External use: grind and sprinkle.
