Perennial evergreen herbs. Stem erect, suborbicular, or slightly angular. Leaf blade ovate, apex rounded, entire or thinly sparsely serrated, base cuneate or slightly rounded, leathery; petiole several equal or slightly longer than leaf blade, flat with purple. Flowers white, on the upper end of the stem, arranged in racemes; calyx 5-cleft; petals 5. The capsule is oblate, dehiscent when it is heated, and seeds are scattered. It blooms in summer.
