Evergreen trees, up to 10 meters high. Young branches rusty pilose. The leaves are double pinnate, alternate, 15-20 cm long; the leaflets are 2-5 pairs, usually alternate, leathery, elliptic to ovate lanceolate, 6-15 cm long. Apex mucronate or obtuse, base oblique, entire or undulate, dark green, brown when tender, usually pink green below. Flowers bisexual, or unisexual flowers coexist with bisexual flowers; terminal or axillary panicles; flowers small, yellow white, 4-5 mm in diameter, covered with rust colored stellate pubescence; calyx 5-lobed, lobes ovate; petals 5-spatulate, inner surface hairy; stamens usually 8; ovary 2-3-locular, stigma 2-lobed. The drupe is globose, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, with yellowish brown outer skin, coarse, white and fleshy aril, and one dark brown seed inside. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from July to September.

Distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places.
