[plant morphology] Gouju, also known as Zhizhi (Zhouli), Tieli (a textual research on the name and reality of plants), tielizhai and Yuqi.
Evergreen shrubs or small trees, 5-7 m high. The stems and branches are provided with thick axillary spines, 3-4 cm long, with flat base; the young branches are smooth, glabrous, green, flat and angular; the old branches are round. The terminal leaflets are elliptic to obovate, 2.5-6 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide, with rounded or slightly concave apex, cuneate base, smaller lateral leaflets, oblique base and serrated edges. Arachis hypogaea L. leaves axillary on biennial branches, usually opening first; sepals 5, ovate triangular; petals 5, white, oblong obovate, 8-10 mm long; stamens 8-10, or more than 20, free; ovary superior, pubescent, 6-8-locular, style thick and short. The fruit is round, 2-4cm in diameter, yellow and fragrant when ripe. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit is ripe from September to October.
Most of them are planted as hedgerows. It is distributed in most parts of the country.
