Subshrub, 0.5-1 m high, glabrous. Stems erect or prostrate, cylindrical, soft. Leaves alternate, obovate elliptic, 2.5-7.5 cm long, apex rounded or acuminate, apex pointed, entire or slightly crenulate, base tapering to petiole. The flowers are yellow, solitary or several clustered in leaf axils and branch tops; the diameter of flowers is about 2.5 cm, the pedicel is slender, sometimes shorter; the sepals are 5, lanceolate, nearly 1 cm long; the Corolla is 5-petal, twisted, much longer than the sepals, and the lower part is connected into a tube; the stamens are 5, United at the lower part, and alternate with 5 staminodes; the ovary is 3-locular, each locule is divided into 2 chambers, each locule has one ovule and 3 styles. Capsule shorter than sepals, as large as pea; seeds reniform. It blooms in spring and summer.
It is often grown on roadsides, hillsides, rocks or ditches. It is distributed in the central and western parts of China.
Cold in nature, sweet in taste and non-toxic.
Functions and indications: clearing dampness and heat of small intestine and promoting urination.
