The color of the spines can be divided into two types: one is pure white, or the tip is slightly brown; the other is white or yellowish brown at the base, and then white at the upper part, and brown at the tip. The whole back is earthy brown. The hair on the sides of the face is gray or light yellow. Four feet light brown. It inhabits in the shrubbery of plains, hills or mountains, and also in the suburbs and near villages. The hibernation period is as long as half a year. When they meet the enemy, they curl into a stab. It mainly feeds on insects and their larvae, as well as young birds, eggs, frogs, lizards, melons, fruits and vegetables. It is distributed in Northeast, North China, East China, central China and even Sichuan.
