[plant morphology] Rhizoma Hedysarum
The wood is rattan, hard. The stem is flat, pole like, nodose, 5-10 cm wide; the tendril is long and twining, opposite to the leaf. Leaves alternate, long petiolate, palmately 5-foliolate; leaflets ovate long elliptic, 9-15 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, apex pointed, base broadly cuneate, margin shallowly undulate, both sides green glabrous. Corymbose cymes axillary; flowers pale green; petals broadly ovate triangular, caducous; stamens shorter than ovary; ovary broadly conic, stigma 4-lobed, radial. The berry is fleshy, ovoid, large as a bird's egg, and yellow when ripe. It blooms in spring.
Born in high mountains and dense forests, winding it on trees. It is distributed all over the south of China.
