[plant morphology] ① Baiqian willow leaf, also known as Salix, big crane ladle and Salix.
Perennial herbs. The height is 30-60 cm. The rhizome is creeping. Stem erect, simple, lower part lignified. Leaf blade lanceolate to linear lanceolate, 3-8 cm long and 3-8 mm wide, apex acuminate, base narrower, margin retrorse; lower leaf shorter and wider; apical leaf shorter and narrower. Cyme axillary, total pedicel 8-15 mm long, with many bracteoles above the middle; calyx green, 5-lobed, lobes ovate lanceolate; corolla purple, 5-lobed, lobes linear, about 5 mm long, base short tubular; corona 5, upper part around the top of stigma, shorter than stigma; stamen 5, with pistil into stigma, anther 2-locular; pistil 1, ovary superior, 2-carpel several Style 2, connected to form a flat disk-shaped stigma at the top. Follicles angular, ca. 7 cm long. Seeds numerous, apex with white villi. The flowering period is June. The fruiting period is October.
It grows on the sand moraine of stream beach and river side or in the shade and wet place of valley. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Guangdong, Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, etc.

Perennial herbs, 25-40 cm high. The rhizome is prostrate, and the nodes are clustered with many fibrous roots. The stem is erect, the young branch is covered with brown Tricholoma, and the old branch often remains some Tricholoma. Leaf blade elliptic, 2.5-5 cm long, 0.8-1.5 cm wide, apex rounded or acute, base cuneate, entire. Corymbose axillary; calyx yellowish green, nearly divided, lobes ovate; corolla yellowish white, deeply 5-lobed, lobes oval; corona 5, yellowish green, sarcomatous, upper part around the top of stigma, several times as long as stigma; stamen 5, drug covering the apex of stigma; ovary superior, composed of 2 almost separated carpels, two stigmas connected to form a thick flat plate stigma. Fruit 1-2, narrowly ovate, about 4.5 cm long. Seeds numerous, apex with white villi. The flowering period is August. The fruit period is from September to October.
The growth environment and distribution are the same as that of the former. The two always grow together.

Also known as: crane tube white front. It is a dry rhizome and root, which is twisted into a mass. The rhizome is tubular, slender, nodal, slightly curved, about 4-15 cm long, 1.5-5 mm in diameter, light yellow to yellowish brown on the surface, with fine longitudinal wrinkles, swollen nodes, often divergent, dense fibrous roots, and gray green or purple brown aerial stems on the top; it is hard and brittle, easy to break, round in cross section, hollow or membranous pith. The roots are slender and curved, about 1-10 cm long, most of them are hairy, with brown or purple brown surface, fine wrinkles and many small fibrous roots. It is hard and brittle, easy to break, with white section, and the center wood can be seen under the enlarged microscope. The air is weak and the taste is sweet.
② Daphne genkwa yebaiqian
The dry roots and rhizomes are similar in shape to those of Baiqian, but the buds of rhizomes and aboveground stem nodes are opposite and prominent; the roots are long and thick, about 5-20 cm long and 0.5-1 mm in diameter; the color is also lighter, often grayish yellow. The air is weak and the taste is slightly sweet.
For the above two kinds, it is better to have thick rhizome, long fibrous root, no soil and impurities.
It is mainly produced in Zhejiang and Anhui. In addition, it is also produced in Jiangsu, Hubei and Jiangxi.
