Introduction to Bulang Nationality

Bulang people are distributed in the mountainous areas along the middle and lower reaches of Lancang River in western Yunnan Province. Among them, nearly 30000 people are concentrated in the mountainous areas of Bulang mountain, Xiding, Bada and Daluo along the border of Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, and a few are distributed in Jinghong City and Mengla County. The rest are distributed in Shuangjiang Lahu, WA, Blang and Dai Autonomous County, Baoshan, zhenkang, Yun, Yongde, Gengma, Lancang, Mojiang and other cities and counties. The Bulang people in Shuangjiang County mainly live in damangbeng and pangpin in Dawen Township, dananzhi, Lingdi and mangying in Bangbing Township, xiaobangxie in Shahe Township and a few scattered in Mengku town. About 85000 people of Bulang Nationality mainly live in Xishuangbanna area in Western China and get along closely with Dai people. Therefore, their houses and clothes are similar to Dai people.

Costume history

During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the Bulang Nationality had weaving and weaving, and the level of dyeing technology was also high. After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, both men and women of the Bulang Nationality wore their hair in a bun. Women wear flowered blouses and long black skirts; they wear black rattan rings made of several rattan stripes on their legs; they wear a bamboo hat on their head, big silver rings or copper rings on their ears, and copper bracelets on their hands. They wear blue or green beads around their necks, while the necklaces are covered with five color burnt beads and seashells, which are as long as the umbilicus. The men's clothes of Bulang Nationality in Lincang area are simple and crude, with only two pieces of cloth stitched together, no placket and sleeve, and bare arms.

Modern dress of Bulang Nationality has the same form, but there are some differences. In the clothing of Bulang people in Lincang and Simao areas, men wear black short jacket with large face and trousers, with blue or black Baotou on their heads, and some wear bracelets and barefoot. A woman's head is wrapped in a piece of green cloth. The women in Shidian County also folded their Baotou into a triangle and tied glass beads of various colors near their forehead. They wore a blue high collar top with patterns embroidered on the collar, three patterns inlaid on the left front, red, black and green cloth strips on the cuffs, and a pair of short jackets with 15 or 20 pairs of cloth buttons. Women wear skirts, belts around their waists, leg protectors around their legs, silver rings and silver bracelets, and their teeth are dyed black and red. The Bulang men in Xishuangbanna wear a black or cyan round neck long sleeve cardigan, which is twisted and buckled on the chest with cloth; they wear black wide crotch pants; they wear white, black or cyan bandages on their heads; they generally have the custom of tattooing; they wear a black skirt with red, white and black lines on the top of the skirt, and some young girls wear white, red and green coats; their legs are wrapped in white They wear black and cyan headbands, silver earrings in their ears, silver bracelets in their hands, and glass beads in various colors. Young women like to wear glass beads, and their teeth are dyed black.
