Historical facts
The general of Wagang army in the late Sui Dynasty. At the beginning of the uprising in Jiyang (now the northeast of Lankao County in Henan Province), Li mi was recommended to zhairang, making Li mi the leader of Wagang uprising army instead of zhairang. In 617 (the 13th year of Yang Guangye, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty), he was named Duke of Wei and was granted the title of Duke of Langya. After killing zhairang secretly, he and Xu Shiji led the rest of the people. Later, he entered the pass from Li mi (referring to the West of Tongguan today) and descended to Tang Dynasty.
Wang bodang, a good friend of Li Mi, went to Wagang village with Li Mi and became Li Mi's confidant. Li Mi and Wang Shichong fight a decisive battle in Yanshi and order Wang Bo to guard the rear base Jinyong city. Soon after Li mi was defeated, Wang bodang abandoned Jinyong city and met Li mi. Li mi decided to surrender to Tang Dynasty, and Wang bodang expressed his willingness to accompany him to death. After Li mi came down to Tang Dynasty, he decided to rebel because he was not used by Li Yuan. Wang bodang couldn't persuade him, so he decided to live with Li mi. After Li mi attacked Taolin County, Zhang Shanxiang wanted to invest in Taolin county. On the way, he was ambushed by Tang general Sheng Yanshi. Both Li Mi and Wang bodang died. Bodang was a loyal man.
Life of the characters
In February of the 13th year of Daye, Wang bodang and others elected Li Mi as Duke of Wei in Luokou. In 618 ad (the 14th year of Daye), Wang Shichong mutinied. Li Mi and Wang Shichong fought a decisive battle in Yanshi (today's east of Yanshi in Henan Province), and ordered Wang Bo to guard the rear base Jinyong city (today's north of Luoyang in Henan Province). Soon after Li mi was defeated, Wang bodang abandoned Jinyong city and went north to Heyang (now Southeast of Mengxian County, Henan Province). Meet Li mi. Li mi was desperate and led Wang bodang and other 20000 people to the Tang Dynasty. After the fall of Tang Dynasty, Li mi was dissatisfied because he was not reused. In December, Li mi thought Li Yuan wanted to get rid of himself, so he led Wang bodang and others to rebel against Tang Dynasty. Li Mi and Wang bodang led dozens of people to attack Taolin county (now the southwest of Sanmenxia, Henan Province) on January 19, 619 (Yishuo 20) (December 29, the ninth year of Wude, Tang Dynasty). They entered Xiong'er mountain and wanted to vote for Zhang Shanxiang. However, they were ambushed by Tang general Sheng Yanshi in Xiong'er mountain, and Li Mi and Wang bodang were killed together.
In history, Wang bodang was a loyal general around Li mi. Wang bodang is famous for being good at shooting in novels such as Wagang hero, complete biography of the romance of the Tang Dynasty, biography of the prosperous Tang Dynasty and other folklores, and his nickname is yongsanlang. In different novels, Wang bodang ranks differently. In Wagang hero, Wang bodang ranks sixth in Wagang village and 17th in eighteen heroes. In the complete biography of the romance of the Tang Dynasty, Wang bodang is not included in the list of "Eighteen heroes of the Sui and Tang Dynasties", and some later generations have added him to the fourteenth place. In the biography of Xingtang, Wang bodang is the fourteenth of the "Sixteen heroes". But in any case, Wang bodang's archery is outstanding in any work. In the martial arts competition at Yanshan training ground, Qin Shubao killed two birds with one stone, but the book said that the arrow technique was passed down by Wang bodang. Obviously, Wang bodang's archery is better than Qin Shubao's. Later, Qin Shubao was chased to a river by Wei Wentong, the ninth man in the book. He was just at the bottom of the river when Qin Shubao was about to be cut down by Wei Wentong. Wang bodang shot an arrow from the other side of the river, hitting Wei Wentong's left hand. Wang bodang cried, "I'll shoot you in the right hand." Another arrow hit Wei Wentong's right hand. Wang bodang called again, "if you don't leave, I'll shoot you in the heart." Wei Wentong was so surprised that he let Qin Shubao go and retreated in a hurry. In addition, Wang bodang also shot and killed the guard general Xin Wenli of Hongni pass and others, and became the first shooter in Wagang hero.
Character evaluation
Li Shimin admires the Wagang five tiger generals Luo Cheng, Qin Shubao, Shan xiongxin, Wang bodang, and Cheng Yaojin. He already has Qin Shubao, Luo Cheng, and Cheng Yaojin in his hands. Shan xiongxin, because of his hatred for killing his brother with the Li family, has no common destiny. In Li Shimin's view, there is still some hope for persuading Wang bodang to surrender. Surrounded by Li Mi and Wang bodang in duanmi stream, Li Shimin knelt down to show his love for talent in order to surrender his opponent. Wang bodang vowed to follow Li Mi to the death to show that he would not serve the two masters. Finally, he and Li mi were shot by the Tang army and died in duanmi stream. There are many opinions about Wang bodang's failure. It can be said that different people have different opinions.
Positive evaluation: Wang bodang is a loyal and righteous man.
Negative evaluation: Wang bodang's loyalty to the king of Wei and Shan xiongxin's loyalty to the king of Luoyang is due to the hero's wrong casting and missing the good master's loyalty; only Qin qiongliang's bird chooses the wood to live in, and the hero chooses the master to depend on, and is loyal to his place. In the romance of the novel, when the ancient kings fought against the mountains and rivers, there would always be acts of courtesy and benevolence. In the water margin, Song Jiang's kneeling attracted many former enemies. In the romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei's Sangu cottage has also become a historical story. It's a matter of great honor to be looked up to by noble people, especially the kneeling worship of the king of Qin, which makes ordinary people even more grateful.
Chinese people pay attention to face, Li Shimin also gave Wang bodang enough face, but Wang bodang refused. Some people say that he is stupid and loyal, and there is no good bird to choose a tree. But in Wang bodang's heart, there is no other explanation for loyalty and righteousness. It has nothing to do with words games such as stupid loyalty and good birds choosing wood. It is to choose a Allah that he recognizes and end up in one. Therefore, for the sake of loyalty and righteousness in his heart, he would rather die than surrender. When the external environment conflicts with one's own inner choice, the firmness and indifference to external affairs are shocking. Wang bodang
Mencius said, "rich and noble can't be lewd, poor and humble can't be moved, and powerful can't be subdued. This is called a great man." Historical right and wrong, moral evaluation, sometimes is very thin and vague, put aside the outside dispute, obey their own inner choice, infatuated, single-minded, always let people respect. Zhang Ailing, a talented woman of her generation, chose Hu Lancheng, who was criticized by the world, for her inner love, regardless of the opposition of the people at that time. Although she was abandoned, her love was still desolate and wonderful. Some people have also used a dark psychological conjecture Wang bodang's not falling: 1, like Xiang Yu, fishing for fame. 2. Better be the first general under Li mi than a little general under others.
