Study hard
When he was a child, his family was extremely poor. His father refused to borrow money for him to study because he borrowed too much. After many years of hard work, he studied in Hangzhou, Beijing, the United States and other places, and finally achieved good results. He graduated from the Agricultural College of Cornell University in 1926. In January 1913, he was admitted to Jianqiao a agricultural school in Hangzhou. After graduating from Cornell University in 1926, he immediately returned to Jinling university to teach and devote himself to agricultural education.
Agronomy serves the country
After returning to China, Shen Zonghan first taught in Jinling University. In 1936, Shen Zonghan organized the Central Agricultural Experimental Institute. In 1939, he was elected vice president of the world genetics Congress. From 1934 to 1950, Shen Zonghan devoted himself to the improvement of Wheat Varieties in China. By 1997, the most abundant wheat variety in the Yangtze River valley was the "JINDA 2905" wheat variety that Shen Zonghan successfully improved. In 1948, in order to solve China's increasingly serious rural problems, the Chinese and American governments jointly established the "China Rural Rehabilitation Joint Committee". Shen Zonghan was once again listed in the delegation. Less than a year after the establishment of the association, more than 200 agricultural projects were launched. Shen Zonghan, with his wife and children, came to Taiwan in 1949. He still insisted on agricultural construction and continued to assist the government in promoting land reform, reorganizing farmers' associations, building water conservancy and improving rural health. Therefore, he led many agricultural advisory missions to the Philippines and Thailand to teach the local government how to develop agriculture. In the 1950s, he was a leading agronomist in Taiwan. He was in charge of Taiwan's agriculture. He was a planner and an important participant in the post-war economic take-off. After 1960, he presided over the establishment of the first international agricultural research center in Asia: "Asian Vegetable Research and development center".
