Cao Yuanzhong
Cao Yuanzhong? In the period of Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, the fourth governor of Cao's Guiyi army. He is the son of Cao Yijin, the founder of Cao's Guiyi army regime, and the younger brother of Cao Yuande and Cao Yuanshen. He was born in Shazhou (now Dunhuang, Gansu Province).
Life
In the third year of Kaiyun in the later Jin Dynasty (946), the emperor Shi Chonggui took caoyuanzhong, the governor of Guazhou, to stay in Shazhou.
In July of the 12th year of Tianfu in the later Han Dynasty (947), the emperor Liu Zhiyuan granted Cao Yuanzhong, the Jiedu envoy of Guiyi army, as the special chief of the Imperial Academy. In May of the second year of Qianyou (949) of the later Han Dynasty, Emperor Liu Chengyou conferred the title of governor, special advance and censor of Guiyi army, Cao Yuanzhong, the imperial historian and the founding Marquis of Qiaojun.
In 955, Chai Rong, the second year of the late Zhou Dynasty, stayed in Shazhou as the governor of Guiyi army. In May, Wuzi took Cao Yuanzhong as the governor of Shazhou, the chief inspector of the school, and the Zhangshi of Tongping.
In the first month of the third year of Jianlong (962), caoyuanzhong, the governor of Guasha Guiyi, offered horses to Taizu.
In the third year of Kaibao (970), Cao Yuanzhong was a meritorious official of Fengguo, a chieftain of Guiyi army, a special advance, a grand master of Jianxiao, a concurrently appointed commander of Zhongshu and the king of Xiping.
He died in June of the seventh year of Kaibao (974), and his nephew Cao Yangong ascended the throne.

Cao Yuanzhong was the longest serving governor of Guiyi army. During his term of office, he compiled calendar days, respected people's time, established military towns, granted land, ensured the smooth flow of Silk Road, promoted cultural exchanges, opened grottoes and carved scriptures. It has made great contributions to the inheritance and protection of Dunhuang Cultural Relics.
