Zheng Ji
Zheng Ji (?)? - 49 B.C.), whose name is unknown, was born in Shanyin County, Kuaiji prefecture (now Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province). Zheng Hong, a general and diplomat in the Western Han Dynasty, and a Taiwei in the Eastern Han Dynasty, followed his ancestors.
In his early years, he joined the army as a soldier and sent many missions to the western regions to study foreign affairs and teach doctors and officials. In the second year of emperor Xuandi's land festival of Han Dynasty (68 BC), he was ordered to garrison Quli (now Korla and West Yuli in Xinjiang) and garrison the land. He led his troops to attack the taxi division (now Jimsar in Xinjiang) and the Jiaohe City (now West Turpan). By virtue of meritorious service, he was awarded Wei Sima, who was responsible for the defense of the southwest of Shanshan. In the second year of shenjue (60 BC), he learned that there was internal strife among the Xiongnu and that Shan, the sage of the Japanese, was going to surrender to the Han Dynasty and sent troops to welcome the Japanese to enter Chang'an. Zheng Ji defeated Che Shi state, subdued Japan and chased the king, which made him powerful in the western regions. In the third year of shenjue (59 BC), he was granted the title of governor of the western regions and Marquis of Anyuan. At the same time, he was also a coach in the affairs of countries in the northwest. The establishment of the Duhufu in the western regions governed Wulei (between Korla and Luntai in Xinjiang today) and governed Wusun, Kangju and other 50 countries in the western regions, marking the growth and decline of the power of the Han Dynasty and the Xiongnu in the western regions.

Zheng Ji was a member of Kuaiji. As a soldier, he went to the western regions many times, so he was promoted to Langguan. Due to his tenacity, Zheng Ji is familiar with foreign affairs. Since Zhang Qian's conquest with the western regions and Li Guangli's conquest, the country has set up a military officer, who is a garrison officer.
Welcome the sun and chase the king
When Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty arrived, Zheng Ji, as a servant, settled in Quli and accumulated grain and grass. Later, he was ordered to send 30000 soldiers and 1500 soldiers to fight chariot division in the West. The chariot division Wang subdued Han. Zheng Ji was promoted to Wei Sima and appointed as an envoy to protect the southwest of Shanshan. This was the beginning of the establishment of an envoy captain on Luntai in the Western Han Dynasty.
In September of the second year of shenjue (60 BC), civil strife broke out in Xiongnu. In October, he sent envoys to Quli to express his willingness to lead the people to the Han Dynasty. Zheng Ji sent his troops to meet him with 50000 people from kuci. He led 12000 people and Xiaowang brought 12 people back. Zheng Ji placed them in Hequ (now Qinghai). During this period, some people fled. Zheng Ji sent troops to catch up with them and killed them. He escorted him to the capital. Emperor Xuan of Han Dynasty made him a Marquis of returning to Germany and stayed in Chang'an. As a result, Duwei, the servant of Xiongnu, was abolished.
Fenganyuan Marquis
After Zheng Ji attacked the broken chariot division, he subdued the Japanese king and shocked the western regions. Later, the Han Dynasty set up the western regions' capital protector in wuleicheng (now Luntai County). Zheng Ji was appointed as the western regions' capital protector by Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty. The establishment of Duhu began with Zheng Ji. Duhu of the western regions was the highest military and political officer stationed in the western regions by the Western Han Dynasty. He was directly under the leadership of the central government and was equivalent to the prefect of the inland. In addition to directly controlling and leading the garrison of the Han Dynasty in the western regions, he could also dispatch the troops of the western regions to maintain local peace and ensure the smooth flow of the silk road. From then on, the western regions were officially included in the territory of the Western Han Dynasty.
Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty praised Zheng Ji for his contribution, and issued an imperial edict, saying: "the capital protected Zheng Ji, the commander of the western regions, pacified the barbarians, publicized the prestige of the Han Dynasty, welcomed the people who chased the king by day, the cousin of the Hun Danyu, and defeated the city of Douzi, the Cheshi kingdom. Zheng Ji was granted the title of Marquis of Anyuan, where he lived for thousands of households. " Therefore, Zheng Ji established the shogunate in the central part of the western regions, built the Wulei City, and pacified the countries, killed and pacified them. The orders of the Han Dynasty were issued in the western regions, starting from Zhang Qian and completed by Zheng Ji.
In 49 B.C., after Zheng Ji left office and returned to the mainland, the Han Dynasty was granted the title of Anyuan Marquis with his achievements, eating thousands of households. After Zheng Ji died, he was granted the posthumous title of marquis Miao.

Tuntian was an important measure taken by the government of the Western Han Dynasty to unify and consolidate the western regions. In the early stage, the garrison mainly provided food and fodder for the inland Han envoys to and from the western regions. Later, the large-scale garrison provided reliable material guarantee for the unification and stability of the western regions.
