Song Ailing was very relaxed and happy to study in the United States.
The Wesleyan women's college where song ailing studied is located in Mecon, Georgia, on the West Bank of the okmurgi river. The city is lush and quiet. Wesleyan women's college was founded in 1836, formerly known as Georgia women's college. In 1843, it was renamed Wesleyan women's college, attached to the United Methodist Church. At the beginning, the scale of the college was small, with only one main building, so there were not many students. Their students are generally from the rich families in South America. Later, the supporting buildings were added. At the beginning of the 20th century, the main building was changed from the Greek Renaissance style to the Victorian style, and a double-layer sloping roof was added, making it "the most perfect building for educational housing". The dormitories are located on the top floor with comfortable interior equipment. There are large washrooms and changing rooms. There is also a bathroom on each floor with bathtub and porcelain toilet. In 1900, the college built an additional building to provide accommodation for new students. The quiet and comfortable environment on campus provides a good learning and living condition for the girls who come here to study.
Song yaoru's three daughters, song ailing, Song Qingling and Song Meiling, all studied at Wesleyan women's college. Later, the women's college was also famous for training the three sisters of the Song family.
Song ailing first studied in the "preparatory class" of the college. Like her future husband Kong Xiangxi, she was also the first Chinese student here. At the beginning, people looked at her with a kind of curious eyes, and treated her with a kind of unclear complex psychology. Song ailing can speak fluent English, but at first she is reserved and reserved. It's like she is the only one in the school who knows that a person's real value lies not in her dress and appearance, but in her knowledge. When it's normal, song ailing will stand aside to appreciate and study other students' American clothes. Song ailing can figure out how much property each classmate's father owns from a person's clothes. Of course, this kind of inference is in her mind.
Song Ailing's classmates regard her calmness as shyness, and they all think that this short, Round faced Chinese girl will not pose any threat to them. However, song Ailing's academic performance is very outstanding, especially in mathematics, which is beyond all the students' expectation.
Slowly, the students found that this Chinese girl, who looked very solemn and serious, was actually very frank and friendly, warm, cheerful, approachable, and talented in music and performance. As a result, song ailing became a "hot spot" that students like to talk about.
Since the students discovered the real character of this Chinese girl, they are willing to gather around her in their spare time, or crowd into her dormitory with great interest to listen to song Ailing's sweet voice telling the distant and mysterious oriental story. Song Ailing's story can never be finished. Her dormitory has become a "club" for her classmates. Song Ailing's voice is sweet and bright, and her father taught her to sing at home, which makes her have an absolute advantage in performance. Whenever the school group activities or get-together, song ailing naturally becomes an eye-catching figure.
All this is due to Mrs. Gree, the wife of the dean of Wesleyan women's college.
Mrs. Gree is a kind and warm-hearted woman. It was she who tried her best to make song ailing feel free. Gradually, song ailing had a lifelong unforgettable affection for the Gerry couple. Song Ailing has changed and become more adaptable to the American environment. She wore all American clothes, learned all kinds of American slang and used her spoken English very well. Only one year after arriving in the United States, song ailing cut off her braids and combed her popular high hair style.
Song Ailing's growth also benefited from his father's guidance. Song yaoru often wrote to her daughter to introduce the latest situation of Shanghai, recommend relevant Chinese history books and encourage her to work hard on her own. Song ailing got inspiration and strength from her father's letter, and made great progress in all aspects.
From the Oriental point of view, song Ailing's appearance is not beautiful. Her appearance is often misunderstood. One day, a professor of westrian college looked at her and said that song ailing had become a "beautiful American citizen". Song Ailing was very angry and retorted in front of the whole class: "I am not an American citizen, but a Chinese citizen, and I am proud of being a Chinese citizen."
Song ailing lived in a turbulent age. At that time, the backwardness of China and the progress of the United States were obvious to all. Why is song ailing not willing to be an American citizen, but proud of being a Chinese citizen? Maybe it is because of her birth, her family and the influence of traditional ideas, or we can say that song Ailing has a constant patriotism from beginning to end.
For this professor's words, and for the experience she met when she first came to the United States, song Ailing's heart has always been holding a fire. Once this fire meets the opportunity, it will vent.
The opportunity finally came.
In January 1906, with the special approval of the college, song ailing went to the north because her uncle Wen Bingzhong came to Washington, the capital of the United States. Wen Bingzhong was sent by Empress Dowager Cixi to lead a Qing Dynasty education delegation to the United States to investigate American education.
It was against this background that song Ailing's uncle Wen Bingzhong led the delegation to the United States. Song ailing immediately went to Washington to see her uncle. After meeting Wen Bingzhong, song Ailing was very happy. After all, it was the first time that she met her relatives from her hometown after she came to the United States.
Later, as a warm and loyal guest, song ailing attended the reception hosted by US President Roosevelt for the Chinese education delegation. During the dinner, song ailing expressed her views to the president of the United States on her experience when she first came to the United States, and criticized the "democracy" of the United States. At that time, the president of the United States may have been "deterred" by the momentum of the Chinese girl in front of him. It is said that President Roosevelt apologized to song ailing on the spot.
At that time, song Ailing's father, song yaoru, was also collecting money for the alliance in the United States. He was very excited when he heard about her performance in the local newspaper. The news also spread among the students. Song ailing became a news figure. Everyone looked at her with envy and asked her about the situation at that time.

She protested to President Roosevelt in a firm and gentle tone, denouncing the customs detention when she first arrived in the United States. She said. For a 14-year-old girl from China, she is not allowed to stay out of the gate, or even imprisoned for three to four weeks.
