Character evaluation
Wu Shixian is regarded by the media as one of the most valuable, appealing and noteworthy new generation directors in China (Tencent culture review).
The unique taste of comic language is fully displayed by Wu Shixian. The seemingly absurd plot in the film contains satire and criticism of social reality, in which he gives full play to his comic ability, and makes the audience laugh with high-intensity rhythm. That's the killer of his movies. And the most important thing is that his films will make everyone laugh without obstacles. His films will not have the saying that we often hear that we can't cross the Yangtze River. He can make a young man singing hip-pop in New York laugh with you on Chang'an Street in Beijing (Sohu Entertainment review).
It has the power to shake people's hearts, and the details have a subtle feeling that makes people recall. With mature shooting techniques, it's hard to imagine that this is a debut (Chinese American Hollywood filmmaker Yang Yanzi).
In the eyes of Marco Muller, the president of Venice International Film Festival, Wu Shixian and his films are the most fresh and valuable Chinese films. Watching this film, you can see the new ideas and fresh feelings of the new generation of Chinese directors (Sina entertainment review).
He and his films bring sincere laughter and deep feelings to the audience, which is the invasion of Woody Allen and Nora Ephron's modern comedy territory (American magazine Variety reviews "waiting alone").
