Media interview
Shanqi: cultivating the mentality of a big country -- Beijing Morning Post
When Shanqi's dialogue with Korea was published, it coincided with South Korean President Park Geun hye's visit to China; in 2009, when his dialogue with America was published, it coincided with US President Barack Obama's visit to China; in 2007, when his seven day talk was published, it caught up with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's visit to China
The three books all happened to be so coincidental, and friends joked: which country leader would you like to visit China next time, and encourage Shanqi to write another interview.
Shanqi, a famous TV program planner, suddenly turned to writing and published four books in a row, which made people wonder: what is the story behind the turn? What does he write in the book?
Drift North for music dream
I came to Beijing in 1995. Before that, I worked as a Chinese teacher in the South and as a secretary of the Youth League Committee in an enterprise.
I have won the national competition award from primary school music. I have a music dream in my heart, but my hometown has no corresponding soil, so I am determined to travel in the capital.
When "Beipiao" was under great pressure, clothing, food, housing and transportation were all problems. At the beginning, when they couldn't find a job, they interviewed musicians on their own. 1995 was a year of the rise of China's pop music world. At that time, there were very few "entertainment notes". Every newspaper needed first-hand articles to interview artists. This is also the earliest "We Media".
I'm very lucky that the interview was never rejected. At that time, the artists were relatively simple. In addition, many interview resources were recommended by singers.
In China, it's hard to survive by writing. The media's contribution fee is low, and it's late. Some of them don't give it if they procrastinate. When I came to Beijing, I had 3000 yuan in my pocket. I kept the ticket money in my pocket, and I had to be careful with the rest. At that time, I could take the subway, never take a taxi, or take the bus, never take the subway.
Break into the TV business
The hardship of Beipiao mainly comes from mental pressure. We are full of fear for the future. Fortunately, at that time, the rent was still cheap. I rented a small bungalow. The landlord's children had to take the entrance examination. They beat their children every day and said to me, "it's so hard to live in Beijing. It's better to go back.".
In 1995, channel launched the column "very China" to recruit employees, and my friends recommended me. Due to the foreshadowing of the previous half year's interview, I soon started and became a TV man.
In the next 10 years, he successively transferred to Phoenix Satellite TV, MTV, etc., directing and planning the first to the sixth cctv-mtv Music Festival, etc. In 2001, I became the cover figure of China Youth magazine. When I was Secretary of the Youth League Committee, I was responsible for subscribing to and distributing this magazine. I was recommended by a magazine I was familiar with. I feel very honored.
After 10 years in television, I decided to quit in 2004. There is too much pressure in this industry. There is no personal time. What they do is repetitive work. They catch up with the programs every week and give awards at the end of the year. They feel that there is no room for improvement. In this state, people are especially easy to feel tired.
At the end of 2004, I gave up the job that many people envied and went to Peking University to study.
Kato asked me to start a conversation
I don't regret my choice, because I never infer the value of action from the result, and always enjoy every stage of my life.
In Peking University, I read books and write autobiographies. Occasionally, I do big parties at the invitation of my friends. In 2006, I met Kato kaichi, a Japanese student. He was studying at Peking University. He was a very progressive and thoughtful young man. He was very rare among his peers. There was no obstacle in communication. After thinking for a few days, I decided to write a dialogue book with him.
When I do TV, I am building a bridge to connect the eastern and Western pop music, while writing books is also building a bridge to realize the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. In this way, the seven day talk was published and won a publishing award that year.
Later, I wrote dialogue with the United States, and this year I published dialogue with South Korea. In contrast, the latter two books are both dialogues with professional scholars, which are more in-depth.
There are many misunderstandings about South Korea
China and South Korea are familiar with each other, but there are some misunderstandings among the people. I hope this book can play a positive role.
For example, many netizens are worried about South Korea's "Dragon Boat Festival" application for world heritage. In fact, South Korea's Dragon Boat Festival culture is really deep and quite different from ours. The people of South Korea are very free to express their opinions. There is indeed a right-wing voice, but it is not the mainstream. However, we always regard the minority views as the general views. Maybe, there's no need to be so sensitive. Good things can't be said.
Korean tradition is well protected, and Chinese traditional culture is very popular among the people. In contrast, Korean people are more conservative, Chinese people are more open, and there are no taboos. In the streets of South Korea, there are no lovers hugging and kissing each other. In fact, the degree of Westernization of other people is not bad.
A lot of Chinese knowledge about South Korea comes from Korean dramas, but most of them are for the elderly. For example, men are superior to women, which is not the case in life. However, Korean people are very polite and have a strong sense of hierarchy. Young people must bow when they see their predecessors.
Historically, Chinese people have always been more tolerant, but now they seem to be a bit harsh. They care too much about other people's views and lack a big country mind. As a matter of fact, you should listen to others' criticisms. Only when they respect you and hope you are well, will they give their opinions. I think that only when our mentality is not so fragile can we be really strong. (Beijing Morning Post, July 7, 2013)
