Characters and deeds
The breakthrough of "zero"
Before Chen Jingkai broke the world record, Chinese sports had been in the depression of seeking "zero" breakthrough.
In the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, China only caught up with the end of the Olympic Games, though it was invited after many difficulties. The results were not satisfactory. China regarded it as a diplomatic place to gain political gains.
The urgency of seeking breakthrough is obvious. This urgency stems from two desires: one is to do better than in the past to prove its superiority to the old system; the other is to do better than other countries, especially the United States, to prove its superiority to the western system.
In practice, this desire is first manifested as a process of careful selection.
At that time, China's economic foundation was weak, so it was unrealistic to want to blossom in sports. In addition, some sports, such as big ball games, have a big gap with foreign countries, so catching up is not a day's work. Therefore, the focus of breakthrough is on those sports with a small international gap, and weightlifting is one of them.
"Weightlifting can be divided into many levels. In the large level, we have a big gap with the international level because of our inherent disadvantage, but in the small level, the gap is not as big as the dust." Zhao Qingkui, one of China's first weightlifters, told China Newsweek.
On the other hand, in the international organizations at that time, Taiwan was the representative of China, and new China was often deprived of its qualification to participate in international competitions. "People didn't compare with us at all," Zhao Qingkui said. If there are not many competitions, what should we do? Weightlifting, which can achieve results without competition, has entered the vision of sports officials.
"As long as I lift this weight, it shows that I have this ability. This way is intuitive and effective." Zhao Qingkui said.
In March 1955, China's first weightlifting test competition started in Beijing. Eight players won and became members of China's first weightlifting training team. "Every one of them is one or two in their level," Xue Deming, who was selected as the first in the lightest level at that time, told China Newsweek. The only exception is Chen Jingkai.
Chen Jingkai's selection was escorted by many Bole people from the beginning. Born in Shilong Town, Dongguan in 1935, this little man likes to play the game of "arch stone burden" since childhood.
This kind of game was quite popular in Hong Kong at that time. A round stone cake made of two pieces of red stone was pierced with a firewood stick, which was very similar to a weightlifting barbell. There are many people playing in Dongguan, which is adjacent to Hong Kong. Chen Jingkai is very talented in playing this game. Later, he was sent to the Affiliated High School of South China United University in Guangzhou by his elder brother Chen Zhi, and worked in the nearby Tan's fitness center. Tan Wenbiao, whose ancestral home is Hong Kong, is the owner of the fitness center.
In 1952, the first sports meeting after the founding of new China, the August 1st sports meeting, was held ceremoniously. The sports meeting was hosted by the army. Many outstanding athletes in the sports meeting were left in the army, and each military region was still searching for new talents in its jurisdiction to reserve talents for the next sports meeting. Li Qilong, the weightlifting coach of the sports team of the Central South military region, found Tan Wenbiao, who was familiar with him, hoping to find something in the fitness center. Tan Wenbiao recommended Chen Jingkai to him, not only because the 1.49-meter little man had thick legs and developed muscles, but also because he wanted to find a meal for Chen Jingkai. At that time, the situation of the whole country was that people's desire to buy was fully released and the number of goods was increasing Changgen could not keep up with the growth of demand. In 1953 and 1954, the whole country planned to purchase and sell many agricultural products
