Ji Zheng was born into a poor family. After he was three years old, he was sent to a farmer's family in the mountains as an adopted daughter. His childhood was very difficult. Sports career
In 1962, Ji Zheng received a full scholarship for five years to study in the Department of physical education of California State Polytechnic University. In 1963, she won the women's pentathlon championship of Taiwan Province and the top ten outstanding young women. In that year, she also went to California for training, and won the championship in the South Pacific women's athletics pentathlon championship of California in 1964 with a score of 4122.
