Zhang Rongming, born in Tianjin in 1956, is a professor and doctoral supervisor of School of history of Nankai University.
Zhang Rongming received his bachelor's degree in history from Tianjin Normal University in 1983. After receiving a master's degree in history from Northeast Normal University in 1986, he served as a teaching assistant in the History Department of Tianjin Normal University. In 1995, he was an associate professor of History Department of Nankai University. In 2003, he was a professor in the school of history, Nankai University. In 2005, he received a doctorate in history from Nankai University.
Zhang Rongming is mainly engaged in the study of the history of ancient Chinese thought, especially the history of ancient Chinese political thought and the history of ancient Chinese religious thought.

In 1973, he graduated from No.2 Middle School of Xiqing road in Tianjin, and went to the countryside in the same year.
In 1977, educated youth selected workers from Wuqing hydraulic machinery repair and manufacturing plant.
In 1983, he received a bachelor's degree in history from Tianjin Normal University.
In 1986, he received a master's degree from the History Department of Northeast Normal University.
In 1995, he received his doctorate in History Department of Nankai University.

Achievements in scientific research
The history of Chinese thought, the history of Chinese pre Qin period.
1. Creatively put forward the theory of political religion / national religion, pointing out that the basic nature of Confucianism is political religion or political ideology, and its function is to serve political stability. Representative works: Chinese traditional political religion (Zhejiang People's publishing house, 2000); Chinese national religion (China Social Science Publishing House, 2001).
2. Creatively put forward the theory of life religion, pointing out that the basic nature of ancient Taoism and Buddhism is life religion, and its function is to serve physical and mental health. Representative works: Lectures on Chinese thought and belief (Guangxi Normal University Press, 2008); Archaeology of belief: outline of the history of Chinese religious thought (Nankai University Press, 2010).
3. Creatively put forward that Laozi and Zhuangzi's theory is the classical life religion theory in China, and pointed out that "holding simplicity and keeping unity" is the way of cultivating Taoism, and "Tao" is the ultimate realm of enlightenment. It points out that metaphysics in Wei Jin and Neo Confucianism in song and Ming Dynasties are the middle form of political religion and life religion: metaphysics is the academic expression of the integration of Confucianism and Taoism, Neo Confucianism is the academic expression of the integration of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Representative work: Sinology (Commercial Press, 2014).
Zhang Rongming presided over the completion of three Ministry of education projects and one national project.
