Fu Peirong: "human nature is originally good" is a misreading of Confucius and Mencius
graduated from the Department of philosophy, Fu Jen University, Taiwan, with a master's degree from the Institute of philosophy, Taiwan University, and a Ph.D. from Yale University, specializing in religious philosophy. He has been a visiting professor of Leuven University in Belgium, a lecture professor of Leiden University in the Netherlands, director of the Department of philosophy and director of the Research Institute of Taiwan University. He is now a professor of the Department and Institute of philosophy of Taiwan University. His representative works include "a successful life" and "Fu Peirong's collection of Chinese classics". The relationship between psychology and philosophy is basically the same. As a discipline, psychology is a very late and new discipline, but it develops rapidly and effectively. For human beings, the help of psychology for modern people is far more than that of philosophy. Philosophy is a very old subject, and the subject of psychology is also one of the scope of Philosophy in ancient times, which is about people's inner state. How are these two disciplines connected together today? when I think about it, I think of an observation made by Jung, a Swiss psychologist. Professor Jung is an important representative of the Freudian school. He has been engaged in teaching psychology for more than 30 years. He said: most of the people who come to me for psychotherapy are healthy and psychologically normal, but they are not happy. This sentence is very simple. A person with good health and normal psychology can lead a daily life, but he is not happy. It shows that a person needs a third element - "spirit" in addition to body and heart to be happy. How to treat "spirit"? Because the problem of "body" is very easy, and the problem of "heart" is not difficult. You can interact with others and understand what others say. In society, there is no difficulty in the development of your work, which indicates that your mind and psychology are normal. But what is "spirit"? I can't see it at all. When I think about this issue for a long time, it is very helpful for me to study Chinese culture. That is to say, when I look at human life, I should look at it from a more three-dimensional perspective. When people live in the world, where should they go next? How to live happily and happily from an individual? In terms of society, where is the general direction? How to achieve this goal? wait. There is no way to prove the spirit, but its existence is required. What is "required"? Ask the simplest question: is life meaningful? I have been teaching in Taiwan University for more than 30 years. Every year, some students ask me what is the meaning of life? My answer is very simple. The meaning of life is to constantly ask what is the meaning of life. Just don't give him a clear answer, because there is no standard answer in the world to answer this question. This question must be experienced by individuals in the process of life. Only human beings need meaning. There is no question about meaning for other creatures except human beings. And the ability to understand means that you have a way to find that meaning. So how can life be understood? If there is no spirit, life can not be understood, this is a simple conclusion. The end of physical and mental activities is the grave. People have to leave the world in the end and do nothing or nothing. There is no difference. We have seen many figures in history, but we should not forget that at least half of the civilizations have disappeared and become the objects of archaeology. Many people in that civilization have made contributions to morality, morality and speech, and they still don't know what to make today. philosophy is a very awkward word. It was translated by Japanese. The two words "zhe" and "Xue" were formed into two words, which originally meant "love" and "wisdom". Love and wisdom together, meaning is very deep. First, love and wisdom do not mean having wisdom. According to the Greek point of view, Plato can be taken as a representative, he thinks that people can not have wisdom basically, because people have body. The body must be inferior to the senses, which can only lead to deviation and fallacy. At that time, the concept of the body as a prison for the soul, the soul is the essence, so after death can be freed, wisdom. Wisdom is the character of God. What is the characteristic of love? People live in the world. What's the motivation to live like this every day? Is there any obvious object worthy of your courage and strength to survive? Goethe, a German scholar, is a famous writer. Goethe once said that when you get up every morning, if you can't figure out why you live, it's the most terrible thing. So many students complained. I told them how happy you are when you wake up in the morning and know you have to go to school today. At least you are happier than Goethe. A person's biggest fear is to wake up in the morning and find himself alive, but do not know why he is alive. You can do it, but you can't do it. At this time, where does the power of life come from? Many people have knowledge, get Nobel Prize and become great scholars, but there will still be problems in this respect. The more learned a man is, the more ignorant he is. Starting from Socrates, others asked him: what do you know? He said I was ignorant, but no one in Athens was wiser than Socrates. In the Analects of Confucius, Confucius also said that he was ignorant, "if you ask me, it's empty.". I knock on both ends of it and I'm exhausted.
Fu Peirong: life can't be without vision
the goals that people set when they were young can be called "five sons to take up the imperial examinations": silver, car, house, wife and son. As long as the society is slightly open and the economy develops freely, the above goals can be achieved by the age of 30 or 40. But is that enough? Once, I was flying back to Taipei from the United States. Next to me was a passenger in his sixties. In the chat, he talked about his early "five sons" and later all three children took root in the United States. Children who originally wanted to be in the United States
