Ma Xiaochun
Ma Xiaochun, born on August 26, 1964 in Shengxian, Zhejiang Province (now Shengzhou City), is a professional nine stage go player in China. He is China's first go world champion. He once set a record of thirteen consecutive Chinese go celebrities. He was the head coach of China's go team from 2005 to 2009.
In May 1995, he won the 6th Toyo securities Cup World Go Championship, becoming China's first professional go world champion; in August of the same year, he won the 8th Fujitsu Cup World Professional Go Championship, becoming China's first go "double champion". His works include "thirty six strategies and go", "Xiaoao Wenzhen", etc.
Early experience
Ma Xiaochun was born on August 26, 1964 in an ordinary family in Chengguan, Shengxian County, Zhejiang Province. Influenced by the strong atmosphere of go in his childhood, his parents began to accept the Enlightenment of go because they felt it was safe to play go at home. In 1973, 9-year-old Ma Xiaochun made outstanding achievements in the local go team. He was first selected into the go team of Shaoxing Sports Committee, and then transferred to the junior go team of Zhejiang Province. In 1974, 10-year-old Ma Xiaochun took part in the Zhejiang children's go competition held in Tiantai as the champion of Shaoxing children's group. He broke into the competition, in which he used a single chip to defeat his opponent Chen Linxin and won the third place in the children's group. In the same year, he participated in the children's group competition on behalf of Zhejiang Province in the national go team competition held in Chengdu. He won the third set and helped the Zhejiang children's team get the third place. Shortly after the game, Ma Xiaochun was selected to join the Zhejiang Weiqi training team.

Before 1982, there was no Weiqi rank system in China. In March 1982, Ma Xiaochun was tentatively selected as a member of the seventh division, and was promoted to the eighth division in October. In November 1983, Ma Xiaochun, 19, was promoted to Jiuduan, becoming the fourth Jiuduan player in China after Chen Zude, Wu Songsheng and Nie Weiping. He was also the youngest Jiuduan player in China at that time.
Competition experience
In 1978, Ma Xiaochun won the second place in the Chinese youth go championship and was selected into the go training team of the National Sports Commission. At that time, China did not have the rank system of go, so it became a professional go player when it entered the national team. In August 1979, Ma Xiaochun won the championship in the final of the National Junior go game with five victories and five battles. In 1980, Ma Xiaochun represented Zhejiang Province in the national go team competition held in Tunxi, Huangshan. In the seventh round, he won the national individual competition held in Leshan, Sichuan Province in September that year.
